Boarding

Brandywine Farm is located on 600 acres at 751 Jackstown Road, Paris, KY. We are a full-service farm and welcome inquiries from clients seeking a boarding relationship at any time of the year. We are well-equiped to manage your Thoroughbred, whether it be a maiden mare, an in-foal older mare, a young horse needing time to grow up, or your yearling preparing for a fall sale.
Sales preparation

Here at Brandywine Farm, we prepare horses for all the major sales in the Lexington area. For yearlings, we have developed a comprehensive exercise program that can be tailored to the specific needs and challenges of each young horse. Pam Robinson personally oversees the regime for each yearling that includes long walks in a six-cage Eurociser, free-lunging in a 60-ft diameter round pen, and time on our underwater treadmill, the hydrohorse.
Eurociser:
Yearlings are introduced to the walker in week one of sales prep. Time on the walker is gradually increased to 30-45 minutes. Eventually, the walker is used as a warm-up for more strenuous exercises to follow.
Roundpen:
We free-lunge yearlings in a 60-ft roundpen with a good base topped with track sand. Some yearlings, depending on individual conditioning needs, will be equipped with a surcingle and side reins. We find that free-lunging is excellent for both conditioning and teaching the yearlings commands such as whoa, reverse, and trot, as well as teaching them respect for personal space.
Hydrohorse:
Yearlings are generally introduced to the hydrohorse in week 3 of our conditioning program. This underwater treadmill is a fantastic modality for developing cardiovascular fitness, back strength, and hip muscles while removing some weight-bearing stress from maturing joints. As an added benefit, it teaches young horses trust in their handlers and ideally makes learning the starting gate easier later in life.
Weanling sales prep:
We regularly consign weanlings to the Keeneland November sale. For horses of this age, we focus on learning to be a good citizen, including hand walking and learning the feel of a chiffney bit, as well as feeding the weanling well for coat and body condition.
Broodmare and older horse sales prep:
Brandywine Farm routinely sells both in-foal mares as well as maidens and racing/broodmare prospects at the fall and winter sales. Contact us to discuss the individual needs of your horse.
